Wilderness Body Painting® Wilderness Body Painting® is a method of body painting, which includes more then colors on skin. The person as an individual will be integrated into this process. His inner pictures, dreams and emotions will become the external pictures on his skin. Everybody who has experienced a Wilderness Body Painting describes and feels very different about it. Body painting is as old as the human race and there are uncountable variations and creations. Wilderness Body Painting® links up with the beauty and the fascination of this ancient art. It is a modern form of expression, building a bridge between old traditions and the modern spirit. Wilderness Body Painting® is the connection of our inner nature with that around us. We move freely about in the wilderness, experiencing the earth and its plants with all our senses and so establishing a new relationship with nature. This experience has a big impact on our soul. It helps us to move from our every-day-life to a timeless dimension, in which we allow the wilderness within us to express it in colorful pictures. We experience ourselves as objects of art. Many people are surprised by their own colorful and creative diversity and feel very touched by their emotions and pictures. To all these emotions and pictures a form to express themselves is offered. |

What happens during a Wilderness Body Painting®? One word first: In all what will be described, it is not at all necessary to be perfect. You don't need to be able to dance, to paint or give interpretations. You don't need to be young, beautiful and perfect. You may be yourself. Nothing else counts. Nothing else is important! There are individual Wilderness Body Paintings®, Wilderness Body Painting® for couples and Wilderness Body Painting® seminars. To tune in and as a preparation every participant gets some exciting questions and the task to collect some materials from magazines, books and art books and also to choose something personal and bring it to the first meeting. The more intense the search is, the more anticipation will come up for the transformation. The questions should be answered two weeks before the event and sent to Rosel Grassmann at Haley's Motel for her preparation. The course and the sequence of the below described contents of Wilderness Body Painting® vary. It depends on the dynamic of the group or of each individual person. Sometimes it can also happen that new sequences come up. |
During the event every participant will get the opportunity to answer his questions in front of Rosel Grassmann and the other participants. This is at the same time a good possibility to introduce oneself as well as sharing ones individual imaginations and strengths but also ones incompleteness, vulnerability and anxieties. This connects the group, stimulates the common ground of Wilderness Body Painting, gives room to get to know each other and gain confidence in the other participants. Everybody gets a little space for the gathered materials and for works, which develops during the course. |
1. Besides gymnastic exercises and free dance we will create little
choreographies, alone, two, three persons or all together. Here
counts a playful expression, to get to know and inspire each other.
Very beautiful moving pictures arise and there are lots to laugh about.
Every participant has the opportunity to move or pose alone in front
of the group. The group will help to optimize the expression. Here
develop improvisations, which help later to feel more secure in moving
and enjoying moving during the photography. It is a good opportunity to
experience fun, sensuousness and joy.
2. Beside free dance there are Authentic Movements. Moving with closed eyes. Authentic means to experience consciously ones own movements, which arise out of the moment, ones own impulses from inside. Afterwards these emotions and impressions will be kept through free painting. Later the group will discuss the pictures. The craziest interpretations are allowed, which are sometimes the most instructive and determine the colors for the body painting. 3. During a walk through nature we will make perception exercises. This is another step, to sharpen ones senses and to experience nature in a new way. When ever possible, every participant will have the opportunity to get rid of his clothes to walk nude through (secure) nature and look for places, with which he feels most comfortable. A tree, a bush, a root, a spot with moss.... How does it feel? How do I feel there? 4. Back in the seminar room: Now as far as possible we will choose the colors for the body painting. Every participant will get colored pens and paper with prepared female or male silhouettes. Now we work towards the changing. Every design will be proofed. Maybe here and there will be a little bit changed whereas Rosel Grassmann will help everybody. Together we let the day end for sunset at the beach. Depending how our energy resources are we will dance a little bit or softly let our hands rest on each other with relaxing music. Or everybody gets a little bit time for oneself. Sometimes we read a fairytale or somebody tells a story. |
5. The day of the body painting starts early. Calculated are 6 hours
for the paintings. The moist sponge works continually along the skin
and leaves colorful pattern. The hours seem to fly away. The new skin
grows while the rest of the body relaxes and enjoys the touch.
Sometime there is a new being in the middle of the room.
6. Outdoors everybody goes to "his/her" place for a moment of silence and inner collecting, enjoying the beauty of the transformed colorful beings. Then the photography starts. Small movements, figures, which we created or new figures and movements, which arise in the changed state will be documented: Here an appearance winds through an oak tree, there moves a head of a snail very slowly with its horns. A green Indian stands proudly between palm trees and a tender fairy cuddles into the moss. Two mythical creatures play around a big flower, one stands behind a tree and listens with closed eyes to the wind..... The photo camera accompanies and challenges. The colorful being or the group with its unique movements, an unique expression will be documented. This is the moment of highest attention and deepest impression. 7. After 2 ½ to 3 hours we are ending with sitting down at the place for a moment and let the experience pass our inner eye and also to enjoy once again the beauty of the others. Then we go back to wash away the physical component of the colors. The cleaning goes fast. The color is gone as it never had been there before. But the memory will stay - the skin will remember forever. One helps each other. At the finish we will eat together and reflect the experience of Wilderness Body Painting. There are always some participants, who want to leave their color on for another day to show it to their friends and family or because they just regret to let go of the new clothes. After being together in such intensity it is a little bit difficult to say good-bye. We became a little family, connected in a very special sense. 8. A few days later everybody gets his or her photos. Those will refresh the experience and memory of this remarkable creative adventure. |
