Our Story
About Haley's Motel in Florida

Unlike any other motels and hotels on Anna Maria Island, family owned and operated Haley's Motel has a unique story to tell about its origin. When a small airplane ran into some engine trouble back in 1949, the pilot wasn't able to successfully land on the designated grass landing strip in Holmes Beach and ended up landing the plane on the sandy beachfront instead.

Fortunately surviving the landing, the pilot, Frank Haley, began his search for help and walked towards a shell-paved road, which is still named Shell Street to this day. Feeling appreciative for his life after such a massive ordeal, Frank decided that this was where he wanted to begin a new life and live out his dreams. He and his adoring wife, Martha Haley purchased the land and built a property in 1950 - there began the legend of Haley's Motel. Being so close to Bradenton Beach and steps from Anna Maria Beach, this motel quickly became one of the best places to stay when seeking an old Florida beach resort escape.

Originally built so that Frank could entertain his closest friends, Haley's Motel emerged in 1953 and welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests over the next 64 years. Tom Buehler, the fourth owner, aspires to continue to provide guests with the warm and friendly service of Haley’s charm and family hospitality now, and for the next 64 years.
